Barcelona International Airport, commonly known as Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport, is located approximately 12-13 km southwest of Barcelona city center. It is situated between the municipalities of El Prat de Llobregat, Viladecans, and Sant Boi, with the IATA code 'BCN' and the ICAO code 'LEBL'. As Spain's second largest and busiest airport, this facility served over 52 million passengers in 2019. The airport has three runways and is of great importance for international flights. Passengers are served in two main terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Duty-free shopping areas, various restaurants and cafes, hotels, and shops are available for passenger comfort. Additionally, it plays a significant role in cargo transportation.
Terminal Information
Barcelona International Airport has two main terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is the largest terminal of the airport and serves most international and long-haul flights. Terminal 2 is divided into three sections: A, B, and C, and serves both Schengen and non-Schengen flights. There is no domestic/international separation between the terminals, allowing passengers to easily transfer between flights. There is no free shuttle service between the terminals, but transfers can be made on foot or by public transport.
Getting from Airport to City Center
Aerobus: The Aerobus provides direct services from the airport (T1 and T2 terminals) to Plaça Catalunya, reaching the city center in approximately 35 minutes. Services run every 5-10 minutes and operate between 05:35-01:00.
Bus 46: This bus goes from T1 and T2 terminals to Plaça Espanya. The journey takes 30 minutes from T1 and 35 minutes from T2. Services run every 20 minutes and operate between 05:00-00:30.
Metro (L9 Sud): The L9 Sud line connects both terminals to Zona Universitària, providing transportation in about 30 minutes. Services run every 7 minutes and operate throughout the day.
Train (R2/R2N): The train departing from the T2 terminal reaches Barcelona-Sants in approximately 18-20 minutes. Services run every 30 minutes and operate between 05:30-23:50. Transfers to the train station from T1 can be made via metro.
