Cairo International Airport (IATA: CAI, ICAO: HECA) is located in the Heliopolis area, northeast of Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Opened in 1963, the airport has a capacity of over 30 million passengers annually. Located approximately 15 kilometers from the city center, the airport is a strategic transfer point. With three runways, the airport increased its operational capacity with the addition of a third parallel runway in 2010. Cairo International Airport offers duty-free shops, restaurants, cafes, and various shopping opportunities. Additionally, international hotel chains provide accommodation services within the airport. It is also considered one of Egypt's most important centers for cargo transportation.
Terminal Information
Cairo International Airport has four terminals. Terminal 3, opened on April 27, 2009, was initially designed for domestic flights but later began serving international flights as well. Terminal 2 was closed in 2010 and reopened after renovation on September 28, 2016. There is also a separate terminal for seasonal flights. EgyptAir and Nile Air are the main airline partners of this airport. Transportation between terminals is facilitated and is comparable to the advanced passenger services at Istanbul Airport.
