Punta Cana International Airport (IATA: PUJ, ICAO: MDPC) is a private commercial airport located in the Punta Cana region in the east of the Dominican Republic. Opened in December 1983, the airport was designed by Oscar Imbert and built by Grupo Puntacana. It is the world's first privately owned international airport. In 2022, it hosted over 8.3 million passengers and conducted approximately 50,000 commercial aircraft operations. Punta Cana International Airport handles 60% of all air transportation to the Dominican Republic. The airport serves 90 airports in 26 countries. Due to its location, it is one of the most important transportation hubs in the Caribbean. The airport features duty-free areas, various restaurants, cafes, and shopping stores. Additionally, it offers easy access to nearby hotels and accommodation facilities. It is also an important center for cargo transportation.
Terminal Information
Punta Cana International Airport has five terminals. International Terminals A and B serve international passenger transportation. Terminal A is older, and passengers board and disembark using aircraft stairs, with wheelchair lifts also available. Terminal B is equipped with seven air bridges and was completed in 2014. Terminal B has a daily capacity of 6,500 passengers and can serve over 2 million passengers annually. The FBO Terminal is used for executive general aviation, while the National Terminal serves national charter and general aviation flights. The VIP Terminal functions as a private terminal and aircraft parking area.
Getting from Airport to City Center
Bus (Expreso Bavaro): Expreso Bavaro company buses run regular services from the airport to Bávaro-Punta Cana Station 2. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes, and buses depart every 4 hours. You can use this service at any time of the day.
