Air Baltic was established on August 28, 1995, as the flag carrier airline of Latvia. Based at Riga International Airport, the airline uses Riga as its main hub, while Vilnius, Tallinn, Tampere, and seasonally Gran Canaria are among its secondary hubs. Air Baltic, with the IATA code BT, uses BTI as its ICAO code. The airline is not a member of any international alliance and maintains an independent stance in this regard. Air Baltic's fleet consists solely of Airbus A220-300 aircraft, making it one of the youngest fleets in Europe. As of 2025, the fleet size comprises 54 aircraft. The airline operates direct flights to approximately 100 different destinations, mainly metropolitan and holiday destinations in Europe. While the annual passenger count exceeded 1 million before the pandemic, it reached over 10 million passengers in the 2024-2025 period. Each passenger is allowed at least one cabin bag (55x40x23 cm) and one personal item (40x30x15 cm). For Economy BASIC and Economy CLASSIC tickets, the total cabin baggage weight is 8 kg, but you can increase this to 12 kg by paying an additional fee. Similarly, Economy FLEX class allows 8 kg of cabin baggage, which can be increased to 12 kg for a fee. Business and Business EXPERIENCE class passengers are allowed two cabin bags and one personal item, totaling 24 kg. airBaltic Club VIP members can carry 2 cabin bags and one personal item totaling 24 kg in any class.
Checked Baggage: Economy BASIC ticket holders do not have a checked baggage allowance. Economy CLASSIC passengers can carry one piece of baggage weighing 23 kg and measuring 100x50x80 cm. In Economy FLEX class, two pieces of baggage totaling 46 kg (each up to 23 kg) are allowed. Business and Business EXPERIENCE classes also have a similar allowance of two pieces totaling 46 kg. Passengers needing extra baggage can purchase additional baggage at the airport for a fee.
Special Baggage: Air Baltic offers various options for those wishing to carry special baggage. Sports equipment such as skis, golf equipment, and bicycles can be transported as checked baggage, with an additional fee of approximately €50-100. The dimensions of such items should not exceed 100x50x80 cm. Musical instruments can be carried in the cabin or on an adjacent seat, but this may incur additional charges.
