Air Baltic About

Air Baltic was established on August 28, 1995, as the flag carrier airline of Latvia. Based at Riga International Airport, the airline uses Riga as its main hub, while Vilnius, Tallinn, Tampere, and seasonally Gran Canaria are among its secondary hubs. Air Baltic, with the IATA code BT, uses BTI as its ICAO code. The airline is not a member of any international alliance and maintains an independent stance in this regard. Air Baltic's fleet consists solely of Airbus A220-300 aircraft, making it one of the youngest fleets in Europe. As of 2025, the fleet size comprises 54 aircraft. The airline operates direct flights to approximately 100 different destinations, mainly metropolitan and holiday destinations in Europe. While the annual passenger count exceeded 1 million before the pandemic, it reached over 10 million passengers in the 2024-2025 period. The shareholder structure is largely owned by the Latvian government, holding 87.97%, with the remaining shares owned by private investors. Air Baltic suspended operations on March 17, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed limited operations on May 18, 2020. The airline is classified as a hybrid low-cost carrier; despite its low-cost model, it offers services such as food and beverage sales and a frequent flyer program. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025, Air Baltic focuses on fleet expansion and growth with new bases.
