Suvarnabhumi Airport (IATA: BKK, ICAO: VTBS) is the main international airport of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, and began operations on September 26, 2006. Located east of Bangkok in the Racha Thewa commune of Samut Prakan province, the airport covers a vast area of 3,520 hectares. Initially, the airport had an annual passenger capacity of 45 million, which has been increased to 60 million with new additions. The airport is equipped with three parallel runways, measuring 4,000 and 3,700 meters in length, respectively. Suvarnabhumi Airport is equipped with various facilities such as duty-free shops, restaurants, cafes, shopping centers, and accommodation options. It is also an important center for cargo transportation, offering fast cargo services to many parts of Asia.
Terminal Information
Suvarnabhumi Airport has a single main terminal building. Domestic and international flights are processed in different concourses within this terminal. Bangkok Airways uses Concourse A for domestic flights and Concourse D for international flights. Additionally, the airport serves as the main hub for Thai Airways International and hosts airlines such as Bangkok Airways, Thai VietJet Air, and Thai AirAsia. The newly opened Midfield Satellite Terminal 1 (SAT-1) operates with 28 gates and is connected to the main terminal building by APM trains, thus increasing capacity.
