Opened on May 30, 1957, the airport initially operated with a grass runway, which was later upgraded to an asphalt runway in 1971. The airport's IATA code is TIV, and its ICAO code is LYTV. It is located 3 km from the center of Tivat, 8 km from Kotor, and 20 km from Budva. Tivat is a single-runway airport that experiences seasonal heavy traffic and is the busiest airport in Montenegro.
