Frankfurt Airport is one of Germany's busiest and largest airports. Officially known as Frankfurt Main Airport, it is recognized by the IATA code FRA and the ICAO code EDDF. Opened on July 8, 1936, the airport is located 12 km southwest of Frankfurt city center. Spanning a vast area of 2,300 hectares, the airport has a total of four runways. It has an annual passenger capacity of approximately 65 million, with 61.6 million passengers recorded in 2024. The airport features numerous duty-free shops, restaurants, cafes, hotels, and relaxation areas. Additionally, it plays a significant role in cargo transportation and is known as one of Europe's main cargo hubs.
Terminal Information
Frankfurt Airport has two main passenger terminals, both serving domestic and international flights. Terminal 1 is the main hub for Lufthansa and is heavily used by airlines such as Lufthansa City Airlines, Lufthansa CityLine, Discover Airlines, and Condor. Terminal 2 hosts many other international airlines. The construction of Terminal 3 is ongoing, with the first phase expected to open in 2026, providing an additional capacity for 15 million passengers. Getting from Airport to City Center
Train: The S8 or S9 S-Bahn lines departing from Terminal 1 allow you to reach Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (the city center's main train station). These lines offer fast and comfortable transportation to Frankfurt city center.
